Earth: The Element of Grounding, Stabilizing, and Nurturing

Earth energy grounds our endeavors and creates a rich, stable foundation for our dreams to grow. Earth is associated with the direction north, winter, midnight, and the colors green and black. Earth is the Great Mother, sustaining and nurturing us. Earth energy resides in our root chakra, where we deal with survival, focus, and being grounded. Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are earth signs.

Earth energy is vital to manifesting dreams. People with too little Earth energy lack confidence, and may be anxious and unable to complete tasks. They may have wonderful ideas, but cannot commit them to paper or develop the details necessary for success. Follow-through, security, structure, and stability become ongoing challenges. To increase your earth energy, try the following visualization:

A Visualization to Help You Ground
The chakras (whirling vortexes of energy) in your feet help anchor you to the physical plane and the stabilizing energy of the earth. If you feel scattered, anxious, off-balance, or unable to concentrate; visualize your feet chakras opening. Envision roots springing forth. Mentally thrust the roots deep into the earth. If needed, imagine the roots wrapping around subterranean boulders. Once you feel anchored, send all energy that does not serve your highest good, down through your body. Shoot the anxious, off-kilter energy down your roots, then on to the earth's molten core where it can be burned, transformed and purified. Then draw in grounding energy from the earth. Once you return to balance, imagine your roots receding and vanishing into your feet chakras.

Bringing the earth element into balance increases your ability to manifest your dreams and create fruitful abundance.

Carry or wear hematite, black tourmaline, or obsidian.

Grounding Activities

Hike in nature. Garden. Create a stone meditation altar. Drum, dance, and do yoga.
