July marks the month when thunderstorms boom and rage in many parts of North America, bucks grow new antlers, and farmers cut and store hay. The July moon affords a first look at a 2014 Full Moon, Super Moon, so designated when the Full Moon and Earth are less than 224,851 miles (361,863 kilometers) apart. As a result, the moon, tides, and emotions will be larger than normal. This month’s full moon also celebrates a little-known but important anniversary in moon and aerospace history as explained by Amy Nieskens, an editor for the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
