Love Spells, the Law of Attraction, and Karmic Considerations

For some, Valentine's Day can be a sad reminder of love lost, or love that has yet to find its way. Whether the heartache is mild or crushing, you might be tempted to use magic to influence love's course. Surprisingly, your first step shouldn't be a love spell. Your first step should be you.

Be What You Want to Attract

Put that phrase on a sticky note and post it where you will see it every day. Then make a list of the qualities you desire in a soul mate. Remember: Like Attracts Like. To attract someone who is fun to be with and adventurous, become fun and adventurous. Pursue whatever qualities you wish to attract in a mate and nurture them within yourself. Join a class or Meetup for people who share your passion. This will create an energetic shift within you, and place you physically in the realm of someone with similar interests.

Feng Shui for Love

I once attended a speech given by Bella Andre, a funny, fabulous, and mega-selling romance author. Bella happens to also be a Feng Shui expert. Feng shui is an ancient Chinese system of intentionally placing objects in a way to create the best outcome. (To learn more, I highly recommend Karen Rauch Carter's book: Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life.) Start by standing in your front door with your back to the outside. From this vantage point, which room in your house is in the far, back, right corner? That is your Relationships and Love area (bagua). Bella's advice? Remove any art in that area that shows a solitary person, or solitary anything (flower, cat, whatever.). Replace solitary items with art depicting twosomes.

My Relationships and Love bagua happens to fall in my master bedroom. I placed a framed poster of a couple dancing near my bed. I added a sculpture of a couple entwined in an embrace. The magic worked! But long after I broke up with the guy, I realized that the couple in the poster danced the tango, a dance reflecting conflict and a fight for dominance. Ooops! Out went the poster. I'm still searching for an appropriate replacement – for the poster and the guy.

Love Spells

Remember that list you made of desirable qualities for your ideal soul mate? Take another look at it. The correct way to do a love spell is to ask the Universe to bring you a man or woman (Be specific. Otherwise, you might end up with a new pet) who has the qualities you listed. One witch I know found her soul mate through this sort of love spell. Unfortunately, she forgot to add "good health" to the list, and was heartbroken when her husband died at an early age.

Never direct a love spell at a specific person. Serious karmic consequences will ensue. Besides, why would you want someone who was only with you because of binding magic? Respect free will. You may, however, name a particular person in a releasing spell, because you are not trying to control his or her fate, just your own.

Spell to Attract Love

Universe, I ask of thee,
Send the person who will best suit me.
May their love be true and free.
With harm to none, so mote it be.

A Moving On/Releasing Spell

I release thee, (name of the other person),
